Mindset training

This is where the connection of mind and body is truly mastered.  Ian has several years of experience in helping his athletes develop a “growth mindset”. Research has proven that skills are mastered through mindful repetition. Whether it is mastering skills in volleyball, playing chess or performing heart surgery, increased performance comes from practice. Not just any kind of practice but the kind that pushes the mind and body to make improvements.  It forces players to embrace change and be responsive to feedback. Players learn to push themselves out of their comfort zones and look forward to feedback. They will be encouraged to make mistakes during the process of improvement. Ian will help players to play with composure under pressure.  Often volleyball is “played ugly”. It is in those moments that athletes must play with the most amount of poise possible. Helping athletes make the greatest mind body connection will advance their ability to play well in the most competitive environments. They will learn how to be more receptive to feedback and how to incorporate it into improving their play. Through this service, Ian will provide tips and techniques that help players develop a growth mindset. He will help athletes to become more “coachable” players along with being more connected with what their body is doing while performing the skills and movement patterns in the game.

Parental training

"My husband and I were so impressed with Ian, not just as an educator and a coach, but as a human being. He has a sense of self that commands respect without causing intimidation."

-Donna and Matthew Emeott

We all love our children.  Ian is the father of two sons, both of whom qualify as special needs children.  He understands the need to advocate for our children.  His years of experience as a club, high school and Division I coach has given him incredible insight regarding the role that parents want to play on behalf of their children.  Ian has over two decades of experience as a professional educator (teaching and coaching).  He has worked directly with parents in implementing plans to help create the best possible environment for their child both in the classroom and on the court.  He wants to help assist parents in being positive advocates of their children, while not being overbearing.  He can help “coach” parents with some of the more common issues that come with being the parent of a student athlete.  There will be a special emphasis on how parents should handle the following issues; playing time, the college search, coaches’ feedback, how to talk with/support your student athlete before, during and after competitions and practices, college visits, nutrition, sports/academic balance, sleeping habits and more.
